DONNA BARR AND the Irish team for this month’s European Women’s Championships head for Sheffield tomorrow to step up preparations for their trip to Sofia.
The eight-strong team, including Twin Towns ABC’s Barr, as well as coaches Zaur Antia and Eddie Bolger, will enter a training camp with Team GB, England and Wales and the Institute of Sport before they head to Bulgaria.

Boxing begins in Sofia on November 14 and Barr has stepped up from light-flyweight to flyweight for these Championships.
[adrotate group=”38″]The three-time Irish champion – who has lifted national titles at novice, Under-22 and Intermediate level – represented Ireland at this year’s World Championships, where she was beaten by Canada’s Kim Klavel.
Last year, she lost to Lauren Hogan in the Irish Senior Elite final in Dublin but, since then, has been training in the High Performance Unit in Dublin. Hogan is included here as the 48kgs boxer with Barr competing at 51kgs.
Barr and her team-mates, no longer without the turned-pro Katie Taylor, were in a camp at the Irish Institute of Sport in Abbotstown last week and go to Sheffield tomorrow morning for the next phase of their preparation.
