GARY MCDAID BELIEVES that Glenswilly are well equipped to give the Ulster Club Championship a real rattle.
Somewhat surprise winners of the Donegal SFC a fortnight ago, when the toppled raging favourites Kilcar in the final, Glenswilly take on Down champions Kilcoo in a quarter-final tie this Sunday in Newry.
Three winters ago, Glenswilly were Ulsrer finalists, but lost to Ballinderry in the decider.
A narrow win over Kilcar brought Dr Maguire back to Foxhall again and once more pits them against the province’s other champions.
“We love Ulster,” McDaid, pictured above by Geraldine Diver, told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”59″]“We had a first taste of it in 2011 and we still talk about the Latton game that we let slip in the quarter-finals and then 2013 was just a roadtrip.
“Kilcoo will be a huge challenge, but our boys love playing in Ulster. The away trips bonds the team even closer. It’s days like that you look on as being the best days.”
Kilcoo already have an Ulster game under their belt having beaten Monaghan kingpins Scotstown in a preliminary round tie.
[adrotate group=”53″]McDaid says: “They’ve won five in a row and they have huge experience.
“Ulster is their ambition. Winning Down is just ticking a box along the way for them. It was huge for them to get over Scotstown, especially in Clones, but Kilcoo have the drive at the minute and they were very impressive.”
Michael Murphy – who starred in the final – Ryan Diver and Cormac Callaghan have all resumed training with Glenswilly again, having been struggling of late and McDaid is confident ahead of Sunday.
[adrotate group=”83″]He says: “Any team is capable of being beaten. We wouldn’t fear anyone. Both teams will be going for it. Both teams have a lot of very similar traits.”
