JASON QUIGLEY WILL be back in action on December 17 on the undercard of Bernard Hopkins’ farewell bout.
Hopkins, who was a world middleweight titlist between 1994 and 2005, will take on Joe Smith Junior in what will be his 65th and last fight as a professional.
Hopkins is one of Quigley’s heroes and their paths have already crossed with Hopkins a minority partner in Golden Boy Promotions, the stable of Oscar De La Hoya to which Quigley is signed.
Before his fight with Tom Howard last year, Hopkins visited Quigley in the dressing room.
Quigley had a planned fight in September in Las Vegas shelved because of a sprained wrist, but now the unbeaten Ballybofey man will return to the canvas at The Forum in Inglewood, a 17,500-capacity arena.
Quigley will be up against Jorge Melendez, also from Golden Boy’s stable, over ten rounds.
Puerto Rican Melendez is 30-7-1 as a pro and has won 28 of those inside the distance and will represent a significant test for the 11-0 Quigley.
This year, Quigley defeated Freddy Lopez in the opening round in March before being taken the distance for a points win by James De La Rosa in May.
One of Melendez’s defeats was in March 2015 to Ievgen Khytrov, whom Quigley defeated in the European semi-final in Belarus in 2013.
