GARY MCDAID says that preserving Division One status is ‘huge’ for Glenswilly.
On Sunday, Glenswilly’s 2-7 to 0-10 win over Termon ensured that the newly-crowned county champions stay above the low-water level and will play in the top flight again in 2017.
“It’s huge,” said McDaid, who returned this year to assist manager Michael Canning.

“We take a lot of pride being in Division One.
“When you travel down the country or around Ulster, it carries weight being a Division One team and you gain a lot of respect for that. It’s very important for us. We’re happy that we’re there for next year.”
The derby win on Sunday at Foxhall was Glenswilly’s seventh win in a row and completed their Great Escape, having looked doomed in both the League and the Championship just two months ago.
They marched to a third Donegal SFC success and have now secured Division One football.
McDaid said: “You have to take into account, we were missing 12, 13 players for a lot of league games this year. That was the reason we were going so badly. We were killed every week and we couldn’t get momentum.
“Once we started to get players back from injury, it was a big help and our bench today was amazing. We had three or four changes from the county final team.
“The boys who didn’t play in the final really pushed things on at training on Thursday night.”
Goals by Christopher McMonagle and Caoimhin Marley got them over the line on Sunday after Termon raced into an early five-point lead.
McDaid said: “Termon have been waiting in the long grass for us. We couldn’t look at this game until the middle of the week.
“Termon flew out of the blocks and we just couldn’t get to grips. After that, we settled well in and we came out and opened up well in the second half.”
