SWINDON-BORN Jamie Cox treasures his Donegal roots and the 30-year-old won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super middleweight title on Saturday night.
Cox defeated Martin Fidel Rios at the Bolton Whites Hotel in Bolton in an ugly ten-rounder.
Cox took a 98-86 decision against the Argentine, but it wasn’t a fight for the ages, though that won’t concern southpaw Cox, who is the grandston of Kevin Cox from Ballintra.
Cox is the son of the late Anthony John Cox and the super-middleweight has regularly flown the Donegal flag after his fights.
Three generations of the Cox family – father, the late Anthony John, son Jamie and grandfather Kevin, who is from Ballintra with the Donegal flag a few years back
Saturday’s win moves the unbeaten Cox to 21-0 as a professional and he is scheduled to appear in action again at the end of November in Cardiff.
