NAOMH CONAILL MANAGER John O’Malley says he was ‘chuffed’ for his players following their County Division 1 Minor Championship victory over St Eunan’s today.
In a contest that was level on seven different occasions, the Glenties based side were a point down going into injury time when Eoghan McGettigan had a free-kick on the left-hand side.
[adrotate group=”53″]O’Malley admits he spoke briefly to his backroom team member Charles McGuinness about what the free might bring and when Naomh Conaill midfielder Kieran Gallagher put the pressure on St Eunan’s goalkeeper Matthew Gallagher the ball broke to Keelan McGill he prodded home the match-winning goal.
Naomh Conaill eventually came though on a 1-11 to 0-11 scoreline.
“Eoghan had a free and I turned to Charles McGuinness and said ‘it would be nice if this ended up on the net’,” O’Malley admitted afterwards. “It was a mixture of emotions. It was a really honest game of football.
[adrotate group=”38”]“We’d have been happy with a one-point victory. It didn’t look good for us going into injury time. We’re chuffed for the boys.
“We missed very little and we knew if we were to win the game we would have to do that. We had to make chances count. Thank God the boys were on song. Some of the lads on the fringes really stood up.”
