GLENFIN ARE THIS afternoon celebrating victory in the County Minor Division 3 Championship final over Malin at St Mary’s Park in Convoy.

The team managed by Joe McGlynn, Aidan Marley and Sean Ban recovered from the concession of two first half goals to chip their way back into the contest and then take the trophy home.
Stephen Carr, the Glenfin midfielder, gave an inspiration performance to kick six points for his team, including two vital late scores.
[adrotate group=”81″]Malin scored their first goal after only four minutes when Oisin McGonagle smashed from the ground past Glenfin goalkeeper Luke Reder.
Then, on eight minutes, the Inishowen side – managed by Terence McLaughlin and Paul Gallagher – grabbed a second goal when Josh Conlon was on the mark following a pass from McGonagle after a ball in from Joe Doherty.
When McGonagle then added a point, it was 2-1 to 0-2 for Malin on just 10 minutes. But gradually, Glenfin began to settle. Karl McGlynn scored a superb long range score to settled some nerves.
[adrotate group=”53″]By half-time Glenfin were 1-6 to 2-1 in front with a goal in first half injury time from Karl McGlynn managed to scramble the ball over the line.
In the second half, the margins were still thin and it was Malin who stared the better. They kicked four points on the bounce with Conor McGeoghegan scoring twice, as well as Sean O’Neill and Ciaran Doherty getting their names on the scoreboard.
Malin were 2-5 to 1-7 in front halfway through the second half. The match though, was still there to be won. It was at this stage of the match when Carr stood up to the plate and he helped to take his team over the line.
