Avril McNamee comes through cliffhanger to reach last four at US Open of Handball

AVRIL MCNAMEE has come through a quarter-final tie-break to clinch a place in the last four at the Simple Green US Open of Handball at Fountain Valley, California.

The Ballybofey handballer defeated Suzanne Koehler from O’Fallon, Missouri, 12-21, 21-10, 11-9 in the Female Singles Small Ball 4 Wall (40×20).

Tomorrow, McNamee, from the MacCumhaill’s club, will take on an Irish opponent in the semi-finals in the form of Ellen O’Connor from Leixlip, Co Kildare.

At last year’s World Championships, McNamee reached the semi-finals of both the Women’s A and B singles.
