PAUL MCHUGH ADMITTED that he momentarily lost belief during Saturday’s Intermediate final replay with Milford.
The Burt ace soon regained it, though, and his superb display was one of the main reasons that the Cathal McLaughlin Cup was heading for Hibernian Park.
A pulsating saga, the first installment of which ended in stalemate six days beforehand, only ended when McHugh soared over a pair of points in injury time to win the day.
“Days like this don’t come around too often. It’s a special day and we’re just delighted to be here,” he told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”53″]“I didn’t think I was the Man of the Match. We pride ourselves on our hard work. We give everything for each other on the pitch.
“The mentality all week was to show that last weekend wasn’t a fluke. They got away lucky last week, we knew that. We kept believing and we just kept at it.”
When Luke Barrett stroked over a free late in normal time, Milford led by three points, but Conor Harkin’s last-ditch penalty gave Burt another go.
[adrotate group=”81″]McHugh said: “It was helter-skelter. My head was in my hands and I fell to the ground. I didn’t believe, but boys got us up and at it again.
“You have play for 65 to 70 minutes against us. We’re hard to break down.”
