DECLAN BONNER BELIEVES that Kilcar have the potential to go a considerable distance in the provincial championships and says the Towney men have ‘all the aces’ for Sunday’s Donegal SFC final.
Kilcar, under the tutelage of Martin McHugh, have reached the final for the first time in 23 years, and will take on two-time recent winners Glenswilly in Sunday’s decider.
Kilcar have been the bookmakers’ favourites for most of the campaign, while Glenswilly have only gathered up a head of steam recently.
“Kilcar have been very impressive and it was as good a club performance as we’ve seen in a long time in the semi-finals,” Bonner, the Donegal Under-21 manager, told Donegal Sport Hub.
“They have serious pace and running power. Pound-for-pound, Ryan McHugh is probably the best footballer in the country at the minute.
[adrotate group=”59″]“Kilcar mean business. They’re up against a really strong team, but Glenswilly have plenty of experience and Michael Murphy, on any given day, can win a match on his own.”
Kilcar hit 5-10 to gun down the defending champions, Naomh Conaill, in the semi-finals.
With Patrick McBrearty, Stephen McBrearty, Mark McHugh, Ryan McHugh, Eoin McHugh, Ciaran McGinley and Michael Hegarty all on form, Bonner feels that Dr Maguire will be heading south-west on Sunday.
[adrotate group=”81″]He said: “Stopping this Kilcar team will be very difficult. Glenswilly will set up very defensively and Kilcar will have to break that down. Glenswilly will try and hit them on the counter, but that sounds very simplistic. Kilcar have all the aces here.”
