ANDY CONNOR admitted he was thinking ‘What the hell’s going to happen now?’ as he watched yesterday’s Junior A final.
Connor’s Downings team scored four late points to prise the title away from Naomh Padraig, Muff, who were 1-7 to 0-7 ahead with 12 minutes to go.
Downings, though, hit back with Lorcan Connor (2), Colin Gallagher and super sub Gary McClafferty firing over to seal the deal for the Rosguill men.
This year, already, Downings had won Donegal and All-Ireland Gaeltacht titles and yesterday began with the club’s reserves winning the Junior B Championship.

It could have been so different, though. When Oisin McColgan batted home a goal for Muff, it looked set for a win for the Inishowen side.
“When the goal went in the backs were to the wall and we were there thinking: ‘What the hell’s going to happen now?’ At different times through the season, this has happened in games, but we have kept plugging away and it’s won us the game,” Connor told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”76″]Gary McClafferty came off the bench to set up Lorcan Connor’s equaliser and he swung over the match-winner himself.
Andy Connor said: “Gary has been injured since just before the semi-final. He’s very dangerous inside and would make most teams in Donegal. He gave us a lift and they’d have been thinking: ‘Aww here’s Gary Ban’.
“When you can take on boys like that, it’s massive.”
It was, as Sean Dunnion, the Donegal county chairman said: ‘Lá mór de na Dunaibh’.
