RONAN MCLAUGHLIN was making no apologies for Burt’s defensive blueprint in yesterday’s Intermediate final.
Against favourites Milford, Burt built a ring of steel and it very nearly paid off for the Hibernian men, who led at half-time after shocking Milford in the opening period.

Late scores by Conor Harkin earned Burt a deserved second bite.
“Boys will say it was a dour game,” McLaughlin observed.
[adrotate group=”81″]“We work on a defensive game and breaking at speed. Milford will be two divisions above us next year. They’re at a higher level.
“We work on our own game and we should have been six up. We were unlucky with the goal they scored, but we did switch off.”
[adrotate group=”53″]Cathal McGettigan’s goal came after Gary Merritt’s attempt for a point came off a Burt hand. McGettigan pounced to fire to the net.
Overall, McLaughlin was content with his team’s performance despite limited preparation time due to their involvement in the hurling championship.
He said: “They had a game plan for us and it went out the window after a few minutes and they went man-for-man.
[adrotate group=”38″]“We are a very hard team to stuff. Ronan started to win breaking balls, Christy came on up front and did well. Enda could cruise at this level.”
