FINN HARPS Assistant Manager Paul Hegarty said the ‘guts and determination’ shown tonight could be the very ingredients needed to survive in the Premier Division.
Harps fell to a 3-2 defeat by Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park but, despite suffering a ninth loss in a row, Hegarty was pleased by how Harps battled at three down.
Ruairi Keating and Adam Hanlon netted for Harps in the second half, but the concession of goals to Vinny Faherty, Enda Curran and Colm Horgan proved the undoing of Harps.
“To be fair, they rolled up their sleeves and went at it manfully,” Hegarty told Donegal Sport Hub.
“We had a good chat at half-time and the boys knew that they didn’t do themselves justice.
“Galway were very good in the first half and conceding the third goal left us with a mountain to climb. At half-time, even at two-nil down, we felt that we were well in the game.
“We showed a lot of guts and determination. That’ll take them a long way. They should have got something out of it.”
Harps go to The Showgrounds on Tuesday night to face Sligo Rovers before welcoming Bray Wanderers to Finn Park on Friday with Harps still holding a narrow four-point advantage on play-off-spot-occupiers Wexford.
Hegarty said: “There is a long way to go yet and we need two wins out of somewhere to be safe.
“You’d take plenty of heart with the energy they showed and with some of the football they played.”
