SEAN MACCUMHAILLS manager Damian Devaney felt that his team didn’t do themselves justice in this afternoon’s quarter-final defeat to Glenswilly.
Although Darren O’Leary hit 1-8 for the Twin Towns men, MacCumhaills made their exit after a 2-20 to 1-14 defeat at O’Donnell Park.
“We just didn’t perform at all,” Devaney sighed.
“In fairness to Glenswilly, they were very good. Neil, Michael and ‘Copper’ were moving well. They attacked in numbers and we didn’t have enough numbers.
“Their main goal is to win a Championship. Our goal was about getting out of the group and re-assessing. They’ve been there or thereabouts for the last few years.”
[adrotate group=”37″]O’Leary’s goal late in the first half gave MacCumhaills hope, only for Michael Murphy to find the net, just 11 seconds into the second half, to send Glenswilly on their way.
Devaney said: “We came back into the game, but the goal at the start of the second half was a killer blow. There’s nothing you can do. It’s disappointing, but it’s another step on from where we were.
[adrotate group=”38″]“I felt we didn’t do ourselves justice. We picked up our League form recently and we weren’t a million miles from promotion. It hasn’t been as good as we’d have liked, but it hasn’t been too bad either.”
