IT’S THAT TIME of the week again, when you get to decide who was your Anthony Conaghan Cars Player of the Week.
Last week’s winner was Niamh McDaid from Carndonagh (pictured above) for her part in her side’s victory in the County Intermediate Football final.
We have also teamed up with Murphy’s Gloves, so there’s something on offer for our weekly winner. Have a look at the nominations below and cast your vote. We’ll announce the winners then come Friday evening.
1 – Gerard Melaugh (Red Hugh’s)
RED HUGH’S won promotion to Division 3 on Saturday when they defeated Carndonagh 1-14 to 1-7. Melaugh’s display at the back personified the determination of his club to get out of Division 4. An experienced campaigner, Melaugh led by example from centre-back and added a point for good measure.
2 – Jamie Brennan (Bundoran U-21)
JAMIE BRENNAN proved to be the difference as Bundoran got the better of Burt in the quarter-final of the County U-21B, kicking seven points in all for his team – including five in succession in the latter stages to turn a 0-11 to 1-5 deficit into a 1-10 to 0-11 victory.
3 – Andrea Murray (Termon minor ladies)
THE TERMON production line shows no sign of halting after the girls from the Burn Road took another piece of silverware home on Saturday afternoon, this time when they won the County Minor Ladies B title courtesy of a 3-5 to 1-7 success over Ardara. Termon’s Andrea Murray scored two goals – the difference in the end.
4 – Eoghan McGettigan (Naomh Conaill Under-21)
NAOMH CONAILL are county champions at senior level and their U-21 side are now just one step from their own showpiece as well, following a 4-9 to 0-9 victory over Four Masters in their quarter-final tie. pivotal to that win was the abilities of the Glenties side to score goals. Eoghan McGettigan got two of them, and a couple of points as well.
5 – Kate McCleneghan (Moville minor ladies)
MOVILLE WON their fourth Donegal Minor Ladiies title on Saturday with an impressive win over St Eunan’s. McClenaghan’s two goals in the first half proved crucial and in general the full-forward proved a real handful. A menace in attack from start to finish, McClenaghan is a player of real promise on an impressive conveyor belt at Carrick Field.
6 – Michael Lynch (Naomh Colmcille Under-21)
THERE WAS nothing to separate the respective Naomh Colmcille and Na Rossa teams, even after extra-time in the County U-21B quarter-final in Convoy. It finished in a 3-12 to 2-15 draw, with Michael Lynch the standout player in an outstanding contest. Lynch scored an impressive 3-3 and will be hoping for something similar come the replay.
7 – Daire Ó Baoill (Gaoth Dobhair U-21)
THERE WAS plenty to talk about at the Banks last Friday night, as 13-man Gaoth Dobhair came though an exciting U-21A last eight fixture against their neighbours Dunloe on a 3-9 to 3-6 scoreline. Daire Ó Baoill scored his second goal under the floodlights, which proved to be the match-winner two minutes into injury time.
8 – Shane McGrath (Aodh Ruadh Under-21)
AODH RUADH certainly announced themselves in the U-21A championship with a resounding victory over Termon, with a stunning 7-14 to 1-7 win in Ballybofey on Saturday evening. Shane McGrath was in exceptional from in front of goal for the Ballyshannon side, bagging three goals and two points in the 25-point win.
9 – Christopher Barrett (Milford)
OFF THE pitch, Saturday was a memorable day for Milford, as the side from Moyle View were presented with the AllsportStore.com All-County Football League Division 2 trophy. On the field, there was an impressive performance from Danny O’Donnell’s team, who beat Malin 4-11 to 1-13. Christopher Barrett gave a fine display at full-forward.
10 – Odhran Molloy (Na Rossa Under-21)
ODHRAN MOLLOY gave a commanding performance for Na Rossa in the engine room of midfield against Naomh Colmcille in the County Under-21B quarter-final. Molloy kicked eight points for his side in the drawn game, 2-15 to 3-12 but his showing was much more than that.
