A SPECIALLY-CONVENED sitting of the Donegal county committee is tonight expected to ratify Rory Gallagher for a new four-year term as the Donegal senior football team manager.
Gallagher, who has just completed the second year of what was a four-year term in the position, is keen to get an extended stay in the role with his team now very much in a period of transition.
The Fermanagh native, who was appointed in October 2014 following the departure of Jim McGuinness, met with leading County Board officials two weeks ago to review the 2016 season.
A sub committee that comprised county chairman Sean Dunnion, secretary Aideen Gillen, treasurer Cieran Kelly, assistant treasurer Paddy Tinney and Ulster Council delegate PJ McGowan met with Gallagher.
At the last meeting of the county committee, a fortnight ago today, Gallagher gave a report to club delegates and was believed to have been warmly received by the attendance.
Gallagher has since met with leading officials from the Board, who are expected to tonight recommend that the manager be given a term similar to that he was handed in 2014.
Then, Gallagher was appointed for three years with the option of a fourth year.
Tonight’s meeting is solely to deal with the issue of the senior football team manager’s appointment.
The Executive are expected to table a proposal to end the current arrangement and to begin a new tenure for Gallagher, who was previously the assistant manager to McGuinness from 2011-2013.
A two-thirds majority from those eligible to vote is required.
