GAOTH DOBHAIR, despite finishing with 13 players, advance to the U21 semi-finals after a strong second half performance against neighbours Dungloe in the Banks last night.

A bumper crowd attended last night’s quarter final tie between neighbours Gaoth Dobhair and Dungloe at the Naomh Muire grounds, in what was a perfect evening for a Championship game, with Daire Ó Baoill’s late goal winning it for the Magheragallon men.
Dungloe were first on the scoresheet with a point from a free from Ryan Greene with just one minute on the clock.
[adrotate group=”55″]Two minutes later Dungloe were four ahead, after Hugh Moy put the ball into the back of the Gaoth Dobhair net.
On the five-minute mark, Gaoth Dobhair registered their first score, with a well taken free kick by Conor Boyle. Cian Mulligan reduced the margin to two points three minutes later.
Adam Neely ran through the Gaoth Dobhair defence with ten minutes on the clock, and scored his side’s second goal, putting Dungloe ahead by five points. Éamonn Collum was unlucky not to hit the Dungloe net to reduce the margin half way through the first half.
[adrotate group=”31″]Conor Boyle and Éamonn Collum raised white flags to bring their side’s tally to four points half way through the half, as they trailed by three points.
Adam Neely extended Dungloe’s lead with a point from play, their first score in ten minutes, which sw Gaoth Dobhair having much of the possession, but unable to convert it into scores. Conor Boyle had a chance on goal for Gaoth Dobhair and his side missed two scoring chances within five minutes.
Adam Neely pointed for Dungloe again, and James Ó Baoill hit a free for Gaoth Dobhair from a difficult angle, leaving Dungloe 2-3 to 0-5 ahead with 27 minutes played.
[adrotate group=”37″]Daire Ó Baoill reduced the margin to just one point when he hit the back of the Dungloe net, having gained possession on the 45m line and drove forward to raise a green flag. David McCarron responded with another Dungloe point to put them ahead by two points at the break, 2-5 to 1-5.
Gaoth Dobhair scored a goal and four points in the first six minutes of the second half. Micheal Carrol pointed just after one minute, Naoise Ó Baoill scored his side’s second goal less than a minute later and Niall Friel and Éamonn Collum put the ball over the bar, putting Gaoth Dobhair ahead by four with six minutes played in the second half.
Gaoth Dobhair were down to fourteen men with 46 minutes played when former county minor player Cian Mulligan was shown a second yellow card.
There were some heated exchanges between both sets of players half way through the second half.
James Ó Baoill scored his second point of the night, putting Gaoth Dobhair four ahead again.
[adrotate group=”70″]Shaun Wallace reduced the margin when he scored his side’s third goal on 22 minutes, their first score of the second half and Adam Neely further reduced the margin as he put the ball over the bar, as Dungloe trailed by just one point with just four minutes left.
Odhrán Ferry was send off on two yellow cards with two minutes of ordinary time left, which left Gaoth Dobhair with just 13 players on the pitch.
All was level two minutes into injury time, after Matthew Ward hit the equalising point, but Daire Ó Baoill had the ball in the Dungloe net once again a minute later, after a great pass from Conor Boyle, to put Gaoth Dobhair three points up. Gaoth Dobhair progress to the semi-finals which will be played on Friday/Saturday 28/29th October.
