SWILLY ROVERS BEGAN their season under new manager Gerry Crossan with a draw at Bonagee United in the Ulster Senior League on Sunday.
In their Ulster Senior League, Laurence Toland gave the Ramelton side the lead as early as the second minute, only for Bonagee’s Aidan McLaughlin to find an 86th minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
[adrotate group=”38″]However, Crossan was content enough with a point, although his side went reduced to 10 men when Martin McDaid was sent off and substitute Mickey Sweeney was denied a penalty late on.
“Away from home on the first game, we’ll take a point,” Crossan said. “It was nice to get that head-start and it gave us some confidence to build up. Am I disappointed with a 1-1 draw? No. I’m over the moon. The lads battled towards the end.
[adrotate group=”37”]“We are where we are. The guys are all playing for their hometown club. I’d only two training sesssions and don’t even know some of the lads’ names. It’s nice and enjoyable.”
