GARRY JENNINGS dearly wants to compete in next month’s Martin Howley Memorial Bayview Hotel Harvest Stages Rally in Donegal.
The event this year is based in Killybegs and named in honour of Howley, the skipper of the Atlantic Challenge and a motorsport enthusiast who passed away last year.
The event takes place on October 8 and Jennings is unsure as to the machinery he’ll have for the day. The S12B Subaru is still without a gearbox casing, an issue that forced its withdrawal after the first stage of the Joule Donegal International Rally in June.
Jennings could yet appear in a Mitsubishi Mirage, but is determined to compete one way or another.
“It’s a special one-off event,” he said.
“Martin was a fantastic rally man and a brilliant businessman.
“I want to do the rally. I don’t know if I’ll get the Subaru here. It’s got a cracked gearbox case since Donegal. Mitsubishi are showing a bit of interest to bring a development car here. If we can get it over the line, we’ll bring the team down.
“If we come in the Subaru we’d have a realistic chance of winning.”
