IT’S THAT TIME of the week again, when you get to decide who was your Anthony Conaghan Cars Player of the Week.
Our most recent winner was Ryan Cunningham from Killybegs and this week there’s a healthy serving of underage players on the shortlist.
We have also teamed up with Murphy’s Gloves, so there’s something on offer for our weekly winner. Have a look at the nominations below and cast your vote. We’ll announce the winners then come Friday evening.
1 – Conor O’Donnell (St Eunan’s Under-16s)
ST EUNAN’S and Killybegs were neck-and neck for the majority of their County Division 1 Under-16 League final on Sunday in Glenfin. The sides headed for extra-time level – Killybegs 2-6 St Eunan’s 0-12. However, the Letterkenny side turned on the style in what time followed and ran out winners on a 2-17 to 2-7 with O’Donnell coming particularly to the fore the longer the game went on, scoring five points in all.
2 – Enda O’Hagan (St Naul’s Under-16s)
ST NAUL’S – and indeed beaten finalists Gaeil Fhánada – had a number of fine showings in their County Division 2 Under-16 League final on Sunday in Convoy. Enda O’Hagan, the St Naul’s goalkeeper, did well in tricky conditions with his kick-outs and then, in injury time, O’Hagan made a top-class save from Mark McAteer to preserve the cushion. The Mountcharles side ended up winning 1-10 to 0-8.
3 – Danny Murphy (Moville)
IT’S a fair stretch from Moville to Dooey on a Saturday evening but there were few complaints on the bus of the Inishowen side as they clinched the AllSportStore.com All-County Football League Division 4 title. Danny Murphy’s late score clinched a 3-7 to 0-16 win over Na Rossa to seal the win and confirm the title. It capped a fine evening for Murphy, who chipped in with 1-3 for his team.
4 – Niamh McDaid (Carndonagh Ladies)
CARNDONAGH has only one point to spare against Buncrana in Sunday’s Ladies Intermediate final at Ture. Niamh McDaid scored the late free to seal the deal for the Carndonagh women. In all, McDaid scored eight points in the 0-14 to 2-7 win.
5 – Lee Henderson (Sean MacCumhaills hurlers)
LEE Henderson is in such good form with his frees that it’s a surprise on the odd occasions when he misses his range these days. Henderson was majestic in Saturday’s Donegal SHC final win over Burt. Sean MacCumhaills won only their second ever Donegal SHC title and had heroes aplenty, but their captain, Henderson, stood tallest. Ten points from 12 attempts and a wonderful all-round display led the way for the Twin Towns men.
5 – Joe Gibbons (Glenswilly)
A 1-12 to 2-5 win over Ardara at Pairc Naomh Columba has given Glenswilly’s survival hopes a real boost. On Sunday, Joe Gibbons was their top performer. A typically tenacious and hard-working display was completed with two fine points.
