FOR CHLOE MAGEE, it was back to where she learned the trade.
Tonight at Raphoe Badminton Club, the three-time Olympian’s homecoming from the third of those Games, in Rio last month, was an exhibition in the old hall she grew up in, in front of her townspeople.

Magee was joined by her brothers Sam and Joshua, and niece Rachael Darragh, while guest appearances were made by European Under-17 champion, Dubliner Nhat Nguyen, and Paul Reynolds, who has won bronze in the same competition.

“Four years is a long time,” Chloe Magee said when looking forward to the next Olympics in 2020. “I can’t make any decisions on Tokyo. I’ll focus on mixed and see how me and Sam develop. we’ll have to see.
“It’s tough training in full-time sport. It’s tough on your body and mentally. It’s a disciplined lifestyle. I’ve always enjoyed my singles but now I might focus on the mix. I’m proud of what I have done in my singles and will see. You just got to keep going if you want to be successful. I would never ever change what I have done. There’s highs and lows.
[adrotate group=”37”]“It’s quite nice to come back and play an exhibition in front of my own fans. It’s great to bring everyone back here to Raphoe.
“Badminton is one of those sports you need to see up close. It was a good evening. I love playing here. It’s always special to play here.”
