“All those years of hurt are finally paying off. We’ve worked so hard. We’re so happy to get over the line,” Henderson told Donegal Sport Hub afterwards.
[adrotate group=”38″]“We were the hungrier team today and the wee rub of the green went our way.
“We had one or two young boys coming into the team and we built from last year. There was a lot of hurt there from last year.”
Burt stayed in touch largely through Conor Harkin’s goal, but goals in either half by David White and Aaron McAuley had MacCumhaills in command.
Henderson said: “Burt have been flying the flag for Donegal for 20-odd years. You have to hand it to them for being so hungry. This is the first time that we’ve beaten them in a final.
“It’s a massive achievement for us to win this.”
MacCumhaills led from start to finish, with Henderson’s prowess from frees key in the early moments before White bagged the first goal.
Henderson said: “We talked in the lead-up about how it was vital that we got off to a good start. We got it and we never really looked back.
“We knew that Burt would come at us so we were happy to get that wee cushion.”
