GOALKEEPER CIARAN SHARKEY was the hero of the Dungloe for saving a penalty from the boot of Gareth Concarr in injury time to see his side progress to the last eight of the SFC.
Dungloe 0-17 Ardara 2-9
By Martina Reilly
A game played in true Championship fashion in what was a proverbial game of two halves with Ardara dominating the first quarter of the first half and going in leading by six points at half time, having been eight points in front at one stage.
[adrotate group=”38″]However, after a good start to the group as well, having defeated Glenswilly, the side from Kentucky will be back in the relegation play-off against.
Today at Rosses Park, Ardara started the busiest in the first half and led 1-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes on the clock. A Gareth Concarr free got the visitors on the scoreboard before Brendan McNelis and CJ Molloy quickly followed with points.
The first goal of the game was on 11 minutes from the boot of Ryan Malley in what some spectators deemed should have been a free out for a nudge in the back.
A McNelis free on 14 minutes had the visitors 1-4 to 0-0 in front. Dungloe’s Noel McBride got the home side’s first score on 15 minutes from a free.
[adrotate group=”53″]Darren Curran pointed for Dungloe on 17 minutes but Malley and Concarr stretched the visitors’ lead further.
An Adam Neely free on 23 minutes kept the home side in touch. Concarr hit Ardara’s second goal on 25 minutes but two Adam Neely frees and a McBride point on the stroke of half time left the half time score, Dungloe 0-6 Arara 2-6.
Ardara’s Lorcan O’Donnell opened the scoring of the second half with a point on three minutes before Dungloe started the come back.
[adrotate group=”45″]Neely hit three frees in succession to reduce the margin. And Dungloe, managed by Tony Boyle, kept on pushing. Ryan Green and Neely scored frees and by the midpoint of the second half the hosts were just two down.
Ryan Greene ran on to a great pass from substitute Adrian Sweeney to point and McBride had the sides level from a free on 49 minutes.
Another McBride free on 20 minutes gave the home side the lead for the first time in the game and the determination showed through for the final 10 minutes.
Ryan Greene pointed from a free but Gareth Concarr did the same at the other end to keep Ardara in touch. Another Adam Neely free put two between the sides again before Ardara was reduced to 14 men when referee Seamus McGonigle showed Declan Gavigan a straight red card for a strike on Dungloe’s Ryan Greene.
[adrotate group=”81″]As the clock ticked down Darren Curran pointed a minute from time but a Brendan McNelis free left two between the sides as the game entered injury time. Dungloe’s lead was still a slender one.
Ardara was awarded a penalty on 62 minutes when referee McGonalge adjudged Raymond Sweeney fouling CJ Molloy. Concarr stepped up to face Ciaran Sharkey and the Dungloe goalkeeper saves the penalty as the final whistle sounded.
