On Saturday evening at Glenswilly, neighbours Letterkenny Gaels and St Mary’s Convoy met in the quarter final of the Michael Murphy Sports Junior A Football Championship.
Letterkenny Gaels 3-18 St Mary’s Convoy 1-9
Gaels talisman Conor Mc Brearty opened the scoring with two fine points in the opening few minutes and these were followed by a point a piece from Mark Hunter and Cormac Cannon. McBrearty then hit a massive shot from forty metres to leave the Gaels six points up.
It was twelve minutes before Convoy raised the white flag as Anthony Browne slotted a free over the bar. Mc Brearty hit another before referee Robbie O’Donnell awarded a penalty to Convoy which was excellently dispatched by Browne.
The ever present Nicky Mc Garrigle stepped up on the twenty first minute with a fine point after good approach play from McBrearty. Browne and Hunter traded points before Conor Rodgers and Browne reduced the deficit to two points before the end of the half.
