FORMER DONEGAL FOOTBALLER Gerry McGill’s Tipperary were out of luck in the TG4 All-Ireland ladies intermediate football semi-final this afternoon.
The Naomh Columba clubman saw his side lose to Clare 3-14 to 2-16 at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.
McGill – principal in Scoil Ruain in Tipperary – played for Donegal between 2001 and 2004, having transferred to St Vincent’s in Dublin. He played League of Ireland for UCD and took Dublin to the 2010 All-Ireland ladies senior title.
Niamh O’Dea’s super-show steered Clare into a first final since 2009. The Banner County avenged their Munster final defeat against Tipp to book a Croke Park slot with Kildare on September 25.
O’Dea bagged 2-5, all but one score from play, as Clare emerged by just a single point against their provincial rivals.
