AARON KELLY scored 2-2 last night as Sean MacCumhaills got their Championship campaign back on track, but is taking nothing for granted after a big win over Glenfin.
Kelly’s pair of first-half goals helped MacCumhaills to a 3-16 to 1-10 win over Glenfin.
After an opening day defeat in Malin, MacCumhaills pulled up at the last chance saloon last night and they still have Naomh Muire to come to Ballybofey next Sunday.
“If we had lost tonight that was it, the Championship was over for us,” Kelly told Donegal Sport Hub afterwards.
“We would have been looking at a relegation fight. That could still happen, but hopefully we can get a result next week.
“We had every man going at it 90-100 per cent in training during the week. It’s great to come into a Championship match like that, even when you have a few men out.
“Luckily the boys dug deep and got us the result.”
Frank McGlynn was sent off for Glenfin just after Darren O’Leary scored MacCumhaills’ second goal and the twine quickly began to unravel for the visitors.
MacCumhaills led by 11 at half-time and ended up winning by 12.
Kelly said: “We talked at half-time about keep doing the things we were doing. Glenfin came back in with a goal, but we pushed on. Frank was a big loss for Glenfin. That sort of player keeps a team together.”
