THE FINN HARPS manager, Ollie Horgan, was not willing to discuss the recent departure of Raymond Foy from the club last night.
Midfielder Foy’s exit from Finn Harps was confirmed last Friday by the club and the player has since signed for his native Castlefin Celtic in the Donegal Junior League.
The departures of Michael Rafter, who failed to overcome his injury troubles, and Matthew Crossan, who had already signed for Fanad United last month, were also confirmed by Harps in a brief statement.
However, it was the inclusion of Foy that was the surprise.
[adrotate group=”50″]Horgan, asked about the loss of a player who was Harps’ player of the year, in last season’s promotion-winning campaign, said: “We move on. We have lads in there who want to give everything to Finn Harps and want to work to stay in this Division.”
When specifically asked about Foy a second time, Horgan, following a 2-0 defeat by Shamrock Rovers, said: “Losing anyone is a big blow, be it losing a member of staff, a player, someone on the board, a supporter…It’s about the whole group.
“We have people in there who want to be here and we’ll certainly do all we can do stay up.”
Judging by his reaction, it was clear that Horgan was of the opinion that Foy should have hung around to fight for a place in his team.
The Harps manager ceased his interview with Soccer Republic, RTÉ’s weekly highlights programme, at this point, the Harps manager not wishing to publicly comment on Foy’s situation.
Foy had started just four League games in 2016 and had grown frustrated with a lack of game time.
Last week, Foy told Donegal Sport Hub: “At my age I have to be playing regularly. I’ve been fit now for a few months and haven’t featured so it was a decision I had to make for my own future. I thought I was putting in the work and was playing well in the bits and pieces that I was getting.”
