BONAGEE UNITED finished their Donegal Women’s League season on a winning note tonight against Finn Valley at Dry Arch Park.
Bonagee United 4 Finn Valley 0
The League runners-up defeated the newcomers in a Dry Arch downpour on a night when Olivia McGinley, Alice Diver, Caoimhe Kelly and Denise McElhinney netted.
Bonagee and Finn Valley have finals in the coming days with Bonagee facing Lagan in a big Glencar Inn Cup final showdown on Sunday at Leckview Park and Finn Valley taking on Glenree in the Shield final on Monday evening at Swilly Park.
[adrotate group=”37″]Bonagee handed a senior debut to youngster Michaela Carolan, who turned in an excellent display in the middle of the park while Kelly again showed up promisingly on the right, deservedly adding a goal.
Bonagee had plenty of pressure early on with Kelly and Natalie Sweeney going close while McElhinney shot over from the edge of the box.
The lead goal arrived when McGinley finally broke the deadlock after 24 minutes, tucking home with a fine finish from 12 yards.
[adrotate group=”38″]Bonagee had just the one goal to spare at the break and Finn Valley had their moments with the powerful Ridcheall Doherty surging clear on one occasion before shooting just wide.
Doherty had another breakaway in the second half, but her shot was saved by Mary Doherty in the Bonagee goal.
Bonagee effectively sealed the win when, 15 minutes into the second half, Diver – who earlier hit the post from 20 yards – steered home from Kelly’s cross.
[adrotate group=”76″]Roles were reversed when Diver slipped the ball through for Kelly, who shot into the side-netting.
But Kelly did get the goal her efforts deserved when, from McElhinney’s through ball, she finished well.
Kelly and Carolan certainly showed they’re quite at home at senior level, giving Seamy McGinty’s squad much encouragement for the future.
The fourth arrived when Diver provided the assist for McElhinney, who lobbed home.
