IT’S THAT TIME of the week again, when you get to decide who was your Anthony Conaghan Cars Player of the Week.
Last week, Kelan Collier from St Eunan’s took the away following his performance in the Northern Regional Board Under-14 Division 1 final against Termon.
This week there was a variety of action so there’s plenty to choose from. We have also teamed up with Murphy’s Gloves, so there’s something on offer for our weekly winner.
Have a look at the nominations below and cast your vote. We’ll announce the winners then come Friday evening.
CONOR O’GRADY (St Eunan’s hurlers)
ST Eunan’s confirmed their place in the semi-finals of the Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Donegal SHC last Wednesday when they overcame Setanta on a 3-13 to 1-15 scoreline in Letterkenny. Pivotal to that win was the performance of Conor O’Grady, who scored two goals from his centre-back berth. His two goals came in the final quarter to set up a last four clash with reigning county champions Burt this Friday.
DERMOT MOLLOY (Naomh Conaill)
IT’S sometimes easy to nominate the top-scorer in any given fixture and on Saturday Naomh Conaill had a host of fine showings in their 4-10 to 1-12 win over St Eunan’s. Dermot Molloy set the tone for that win, smashing home the opening goal in only 13 seconds on his way to a personal total of 1-6 as the forward for the Glenties side were all in fine form.
GARY MERRITT (Milford)
FOLLOWING their 1-15 to 2-9 victory over Glenfin in the AllSportStore.com All-County Football League Division 2 on Saturday evening, Milford will play in the top flight next season for the first time in their history. Milford had a powerful hour from Gary Merritt, who stood up toe-to-toe with Frank McGlynn and helped his side come from behind to seal their passage
SHANE MOLLOY (Killybegs)
THE margins couldn’t have been tighter at Fintra on Saturday night as Sean MacCumhaill’s and their hosts Killybegs went blow for blow in Division 2. Killybegs won 2-13 to 3-9. Shane Molloy is one of the most consistent and dependable club players out there and he was once again to the fore. He has been moved out of defence to centre half-forward this term. But that transition has been seamless. Helped himself to a goal.
CIARAN MCGINLEY (Kilcar)
KILCAR’S aces are plentiful but once again it was the endeavour of Ciaran McGinley in the engine room at midfield that laid the platform for others to shine. McGinley -just like he did the week previously against Glenswilly – had a storming hour around the middle third in his side’s 2-15 to 0-14 victory over league rivals Gaoth Dobhair.
CONOR O’DONNELL (St Eunan’s Under-16s)
IN an entertaining Northern Board Under-16 Division 1 League final on Monday night in Convoy, O’Donnell sparkled as St Eunan’s defeated Naomh Padraig, Muff, 3-16 to 3-10. O’Donnell showed his keen eye for goal when he fired home in the fifth minute and he added six points to an impressive haul. As well as two ‘45s, O’Donnell landed a super point from play, launched from close to the right-hand sideline.
ODHRÁN MCGLYNN (Glenfin Under-16s)
GLENFIN won a peculiar and scarcely-believable Northern Board Under-16 Division 3 League final on Monday evening. Trailing by 10 points to Naomh Colmcille with 10 mintes to go, Glenfin hit back and, amazingly, turned the tables to win. McGlynn scored one of their goals in a 3-6 to 4-7 win, but some of his points alone were worth the admission fee.
KEENAN DIVER (Naomh Colmcille Under-16s)
IN last Wednesday’s Northern Board Division 3 League semi-final, Naomh Colmcille had the edge on Robert Emmets, winning by 1-14 to 1-12. Diver was the match-winner with an excellent haul of 1-8. An early goal set the tone for a fine evening at the office and he sailed over eight points to steer his men to the win.
MICHAEL LANGAN (St Michael’s)
ST Michael’s emerged from Glenswilly with the points on Saturday night on a 2-12 to 2-8 scoreline to deepen the woes of Michael Canning’s team. Langan scored six points on a night when he showed great maturity. Alongside the experience of Christy Toye, Colm McFadden, Martin McElhinney and Brian McLaughlin, it would be easy for younger players not to take on responsibility, but Langan did the opposite, taking the lead at times, especially with his deadball kicking.
BRENDAN MCNELIS (Ardara)
ARDARA scored a timely and much-needed win over Termon at The Burn Road on Saturday evening. McNelis was central to the Pearse Park side in the 2-13 to 1-8 win. In the second half, when Ardara took control, McNelis was one of the main protagonists.
