SOME OF THEM thought they’d never see the day but, finally, after 33 years in existence, Milford will dine at the top table of Donegal football.
Saturday evening’s 1-15 to 2-9 win over Glenfin at Pairc Tabhoige secured promotion into Division 1 for the first time.
Of all the smiles, and there were plenty of those from the Moyle View men, those on the faces of club chairman Pat Curley (pictured above) and founder member Seamus Durkan were beaming brighter than any.
“It’s something that we’ve been working for behind the scenes,” Curley told Donegal Sport Hub.
“We didn’t think it would take us 33 years to get here. A few years ago in Division 4 it looked like we’d never get here.
“We were a yo-yo club for a while, but we’ve got there now. Hopefully we’ll stay there.”
In 2013, Milford were in Division 4, but they’ve climed the ladder, taking just one season in Division 2 on route to games against Donegal’s top sides.
Durkan said: “Effort and determination and good management and real concentration will get you anywhere. The dedication these boys have shown is unbelievable. They deserve everything they get.”
