DESSIE LARKIN, the Chairman of the Donegal Marathon, says that the event has gone from strength to strength.
Sunday’s running of the Donegal marathon and half marathon saw big participation around the streets of Letterkenny.
“We wanted to project a professional element and we wanted this to be a top marathon,” Larkin told Donegal Sport Hub.
“It’s gone from strength to strength. Everyone who crosses that line has a story.”
[adrotate group=”49″]Ciaran McMonagle won the men’s marathon with Pauric Breslin winning the men’s half marathon.
There was a unique double in the women’s events. Caitriona Jennings – an Olympian in 2012 – won the women’s marathon, with her sister, Sinead, winning the half marathon, just over a wee after competing in the Olympic Games in Rio.
Larkin said: “The fact that Sinead thought that she wanted to be part of it, it’s uplifting for us. We had international sports people competing here and they are our own people.”
