MICHAEL MURPHY will have a scan to determine the extent of what appeared to be a serious knee injury sustained tonight in the All-County League.
The Donegal captain, pictured above by Geraldine Diver, was forced off in the 52nd minute of Glenswilly’s Division 1 game against St Michael’s at Pairc Naomh Columba.
Murphy – who scored 1-4 in a 2-12 to 2-8 defeat for his team – slipped awkwardly as he contested a ball and went to ground.
Murphy was in some distress and, while a stretcher had been initially taken on, was helped off. Murphy will undergo a scan at the beginning of the week to assess the injury.
The sight of the Glenswilly number 14 outstretched and in pain in the home dugout at the end of the game was certainly a worrying one for those in attendance.

“It doesn’t look good,” the Glenswilly manager, Michael Canning, admitted afterwards.
“He’ll definitely be out for next week, but hopefully it’s not too serious. When you see that he can’t even hobble over to the car it’s worrying.”
[adrotate group=”59″]Murphy’s fitness was the subject of debate all summer with both the player and Donegal manager Rory Gallagher – who was in Glenswilly at this evening’s game – having to repeatedly quell fears that he was carrying an injury.
Murphy did have an ankle injury before the Ulster SFC opener with Fermanagh, but returned to play in all of Donegal’s Championship games.
