DONEGAL ENDED UP coming third in the Buncrana Cup on Saturday.
Luke Gavigan’s county Under-16 panel were defeated by Monaghan by a point in the semi-final at Muff before defeating Armagh when they took on the Orchard County in the third and fourth placed play-off in Buncrana.
[adrotate group=”38″]“We’re playing here with not enough club football,” Gavigan said. “We made representations when they originally had the league fixed. Today we were rusty.
“The structures here in Donegal doesn’t help. There’s a big lack of football. The ball skills weren’t good enough. We’re not a big side and we were hoping our running game would be better. We could barely get training because there were minor fixtures on.”
[adrotate group=”53″]“Listen we’re disappointed but it’s a starting point. They are better players and hopefully some of them can make a mark into the minor squads.
“This is the first stab at some of these kids had at county set-ups and there’s no All-Irelands won at Under-16.”
