SINEAD JENNINGS will finally get her Olympic bid underway this afternoon in Rio.
The 39-year-old Letterkenny rower, and her team-mate Claire Lambe go in the women’s lightweight double sculls at 3.30pm Irish time.
Jennings, competing now as Sinead Lynch – she is married to two-time Irish Olympian Sam Lynch – was due to be in action yesterday, but the event was postponed.
High winds in the Lagoa yesterday morning saw the rowing action twice put back before organisers shelved their plans to get started.
[adrotate group=”70″]The International Rowing Federation explained that the decision to call it off was due to the weather having an affect on the buoy system.
Hopes are high that Jennings and Lambe can advance from today’s heat. They are in heat 3.
Up against the Jennings-Lambe partnership will be Cuba’s Yislena Hernandez and Licet Hernandez; South African pair Kirsten McCann and Ursula Grobler; Brazil’s Vanessa Cozzi and Fernanda Ferreira; and Tunisians Khadija Krimi and Nour Elhouda Ettaieb.
