SHAUN KELLY HELPED Limerick FC to the final of the EA Sports League Cup following their victory over former club Derry City last night.
The Killybegs native played right-back as the SSE Airtricity League Division 1 winners shocked their Premier Division hosts at Brandywell Stadium last night with Stephen Kenny scoring the only goal of the game in the 15th minute.
Ramelton’s Barry McNamee had an opportunity to level for Derry, only to shoot over on 19 minutes and was also out of luck with a 70th minute effort that was blocked by Paudie O’Connor.
There were chances at both ends. Gerard Doherty in the Derry goal saved to deny Aaron Greene and Chris Mulhall, while Limerick netminder Freddy Hall got the better of Josh Daniels on two occasions and also made a fine stop from Rory Patterson.
