TERMON PRODUCED A stirring second half to overcome St Eunan’s in the Northern Regional Board Under-14A final in Milford this evening.
Termon 1-16 St Eunan’s 3-5
The side from the Burn Road trailed 2-2 to 0-4 after just 24 minutes but having pulled two points back before half-time, shifted through the gears in the third quarter.
From being four points down, Termon’s blitz saw them move into a 1-16 to 2-3 lead by the 50th minute. St Eunan’s did rally a little at the end with 1-2 of their own but over the course of the hour the best team had won.
Termon can now look forward to a meeting with Aodh Ruadh in the All-County semi-final, while St Eunan’s take on the Southern Regional Board winners Ardara.
It was the Letterkenny team who looked better in this evening’s contest to being with.
They hit the front, at 1-1 to 0-3, on 10 minutes when Caolan Collier raced onto a pass from Tony Gallagher and with the ball on the ground in front of him, opted for an early shot that pierced inside Termon’s near post.
Eight minutes later, St Eunan’s had a second goal and this time it was Ciaran Moore – again soccer-style – who stabbed a cross from Collier past Emmet Maguire in the Termon goal.
[adrotate group=”68″]That gave St Eunan’s a 2-2 to 0-4 lead but two points from the excellent Jamie Grant – who would score five in all – brought Termon back to just two down, 2-2 to 0-6, at the break.
As the second half started, Termon pushed from he beginning and turned a possibly fragile situation into a winning one. Substitute Marcus O’Connell saw two efforts cleared off the goal-line.
On 38 minutes Termon got a vital goal to really ignite their challenge, with Aaron Reid getting the better of Cillian Gribbin to gave those in the maroon and white a 1-7 to 2-2 parity. Termon had been forced into a change of goalkeeper when Oisin Forde took over but their forwards kept the show on the road.
[adrotate group=”46″]Termon just kept clocking up the scores. Conor Cassidy, Grant, Conor Black, Stephen, Aaron Gallagher and Mark Gallagher pointed to put Termon 1-14 to 2-2 up – they’d scored 1-10 on the bounce.
St Eunan’s substitute David Boyle scored to steam the tide somewhat. It was his side’s first score in 25 minutes and although Moore would score his second goal late on – again blasted from the ground – it was Termon who took the trophy home.
