GAOTH DOBHAIR’S FINE AllSportStore.com All-County Football League Division 1 campaign continued with a victory over Naomh Conaill this afternoon.
Gaoth Dobhair 1-12 Naomh Conaill 1-9
Naoise Ó Baoill was the goalscorer for the home side in Magheragallon in wet conditions and a fine finish to the first half, when Gaoth Dobhair knocked over five points in succession to go in at half-time six up was vital in the victory.
John O’Malley scored a penalty for Naomh Conaill four minutes into the second half after Dermot Molloy was taken down by goalkeeper Christopher Sweeney. However Gaoth Dobhair held on to win.
Although Gavin McBride and Cian Mulligan scored the first points of the day to settle the home support, two O’Malley points and a fantastic effort from Brendan McDyer gave Martin Regan and Martin Doherty’s visitors a 0-3 to 0-2 lead.
[adrotate group=”31″]However, on 15 minutes, Ó Baoill flicked home a Gaoth Dobhair goal after Peter McGee had fielded a ball from Ciaran Ferry. It was soon 1-2 to 0-4 following a 45 from Dermot Molloy after Sweeney in the Gaoth Dobhair goal had made an excellent stop from the same player after a flowing Naomh Conaill move.
Gaoth Dobhair rattled through the gears to go in at the break with a healthy lead, 1-7 to 0-4 with a fine finish to the half with five points in a row – James Carroll with two, Jamie Reynolds, Jamie Boyle and Niall Friel all scoring.
[adrotate group=”38″]O’Malley’s penalty was the first score of the second half and soon afterwards, Molloy’s long-ranger took Naomh Conaill back to within touching distance, 1-7 to 1-5 behind.
Gaoth Dobhair got three out of the next four scores – two from Boyle and one from Mulligan – with O’Malley finding a Naomh Conaill score. That meant it was 1-10 to 1-6 with 11 left.
Molloy scored another fantastic effort from long range and when Naomh Conaill found another point from Jamie McHugh, it meant they were just one down. However, McBride and Noel Kelly sealed the home win.
