LAGAN HARPS overcame Bonagee United to win the Rosebowl final at the Foyle Cup last night.
Lagan Harps 5 Bonagee United 0
Bonagee began with just ten players, owing to a spate of absentees and injuries, and held out for 22 minutes in St Johnston until a close-range header by Aoife Page broke the deadlock.
With the numerical disadvantage, it was only a matter of time before Lagan would gain a foothold and Page nodded home at the far post to put her team ahead.
Just before half-time Republic of Ireland underage international Ciana Brogan neatly tucked home a second to really break the resistance and it was a damaged limitation exercise for Bonagee thereafter.
Lagan went for broke and Amy Boyd slotted a third past Denise McElhinney early in the second half.
Megan Reid came off the bench for a fourth and Lagan’s flexed the muscles with the addition of a fifth, netted by Kanesiha McKinney.
But for a wonder save by McElhinney in the first half and another fine save by Claire Orr in the second, the ordeal could have been greater.
Greencastle United defeated Illies 4-2 in the Plate final and the Cup was won by Sion, who defeated Derry City 1-0.
