SHAUN PAUL BARRETT says he always had ‘absolute belief’ in his Donegal minor side, who won this afternoon’s Ulster minor final in Clones.
Caolan Devlin palmed home a late goal for the Oak Leaf boys, but Donegal had done enough.
“There is character all through the team,” Barrett told Donegal Sport Hub.
“We talk to them about the will to win. We’ve been up against it in a lot of games and this is maybe a good way to scrape through.
“I have absolute belief in these lads. We were nervous today. We weren’t doing the simple things right, but when we got settled we started to take control.”
Donegal lost to Derry last year in the semi-final and were pushed to the pins of their collar in today’s decider, but the Tir Chonaill men were dancing in the sunshine.
Barrett said: It’s a massive occasion for us. We’re absolutely thrilled to achieve this. It’s been a goal from the start of the year and we worked really hard for it.
“It went right to the wire and we are delighted we’re Ulster champions.
“Derry are a formidable team. They’re the defending champions with eleven of last year’s panel. We knew they’d put it up to us right to the end and that’s what they did.”
Onwards they go. With the Ulster Minor League and Ulster Minor Championship already won, they’ve another prize in sight.
The manager said: “We want to give it one hell of a go now. Hopefully we’ll push on.”
