THE DONEGAL minors are on the scent of the county’s seventh Ulster MFC title on Sunday when they clash with Derry in the Clones curtain-raiser (throw-in 12 noon).
Shaun Paul Barrett’s team won the Ulster Minor League and have got past Antrim and Monaghan to reach the decider.
Last year, Derry caught Donegal on the hop in the semi-final, but Barrett, in his first year at the helm, believes his team can do the business.
“We’re delighted to be in the final,” the Milford clubman said.
“It’ll be a huge challenge, but we’re really looking forward to that challenge.
“Both teams used the League as building blocks, but that counts for very little come Sunday.
“These lads have great belief, hunger and desire. They have great belief to lift it when things aren’t going well.”
[adrotate group=”53″]Donegal scored a big win over Derry in the League, but the Oak Leaf will be considerably stronger this weekend, given that they have the Hogan Cup-winning contingent from St Pat’s, Maghera back in the fold.
“We learned the hard way against Derry last year: League counts for nothing on the day on Sunday,” as Donegal joint captain Niall O’Donnell said.
Midfielder Jason McGee, the team’s other joint captain, says Donegal will be ready for the big day.
[adrotate group=”76″]“100 per cent ready,” he said.
“It’ll be a big test. We’re pretty confident. It’s hard to get consistency, but we’re working hard.”
