MARK ENGLISH HAS decided to give next month’s European Championships a sidestep as he continues his return from injury ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio.
In March, English suffered a stress reaction in a metatarsal and was forced to miss the World Indoor Championships.
English won a European bronze in 2014 and a European Indoor silver in 2015, but will give Amserstam a miss with the Olympics his number one goal.
“The priority is Rio. The excitement is starting to go,” he said yesterday.
Donegal town native Karl Griffin, a team-mate of English at UCD AC, will go to Amsterdam in the 800m while Finn Valley pole vaulter Tori Pena will also be part of the Irish team having won her seventh Irish title yesterday
