TYRONE MCCULLAGH is four-from-four as a professional after his latest win last night in Dublin.
The 25-year-old former Illies Golden Gloves amateur overcame Aleksandrs Birkenbergs 40-36 on points at The National Stadium.
‘White Chocolate’ had passed up a trip to Euro 2016 to prepare for this bout on ‘The Future’ card – and he went 4-0 having gone the distance for the first time as a pro.
Southpaw McCullagh defeated the Latvian after getting the better of the sometimes awkward Birkenbergs.
There were moments when it seemed as if McCullagh was going to end it inside the distance, but Birkenbergs clung on. McCullagh slipped to the floor during the third stanza, but recovered.
Back in February, he defeated Antons Zacests at the Europa Hotel in Belfast having beaten Bence Sipos and Tamas Laska last year.
As an amateur, McCullagh defeated James Fryers 3-1 in a low-scoring featherweight final in 2010 – it was a win that has meant he’s in the history books as Ireland’s last-ever featherweight champion.
That year, McCullagh won a bronze medal at the European Championships.
Last night, McCullagh was dancing at the National Stadium for the first time since he quit the amateur game in 2014, when he lost a controversial bantamweight final to Michael Conlan.
