DONEGAL ENJOYED GOOD success today at the Glo Health National Senior Athletics Championships in Santry with gold for three Donegal females.
Finn Valley AC’s Sommer Lecky rounded off a history-making weekend today by winning the high jump at the Glo Health National Senior Athletics Championships in Santry.
At just 16-years of age, the Castlederg teenager scooped gold with a jump of 1.71 metres at Morton Stadium.

In difficult conditions, Lecky won her first senior title and in doing so became the first female athlete from Tyrone to win a national senior crown.
There were leaps of 1.68m by both Shannon Sheehy from Cushinstown and Anna McIlmoyle City of Lisburn, but Lecky took the golden nugget.
That came just 24 hours after Lecky broke a 32-year-old record at the Tailteann Games, also in Santry.
Lecky won gold in the Tailteann Games high jump, as her 1.79m saw her take the prize.
Her leap wiped out Ursula Fay’s record from 1984, which was enough to see her also take home the Female Athlete of the Meet award.

“In a different League,” is how Finn Valley AC’s Patsy McGonagle, the Irish Athletics Team Manager, describes her.
Finn Valley’s Tori Pena won gold in the women’s pole vault with a 4.15m jump, while there was glory for Kelly McGrory of Tir Chonaill AC in the women’s 400m hurdles.

In a tight battle, McGrory took the honours, bursting late to finish in 1:01.23.
Finn Valley’s Arlene Crossan was second in 1:01.39 and in fourth place was Kate McGowan, also from Tir Chonaill AC.
Finn Valley’s John Kelly won a silver in the shot putt. The St Johnston man threw a 15.25m for silver with Sean Breathnach winning with a 17.34m throw.
In the men’s 10k walk, Letterkenny AC’s Brendan Boyce, readying himself for the men’s 50k walk at the Olympic Games in Rio, was the bronze medal winner. Leevale’s Alex Wright won the event with Cian McManamon from Westport second.
