OLLIE HORGAN CAN’T WAIT for competitive action to resume again this week as Finn Harps travel to Premier Division basement boys Longford Town tomorrow night.
Harps head for the City Calling Stadium nine points ahead of the Midlanders, but Horgan was predictably cautious when he spoke to Donegal Sport Hub last night at training.
The League of Ireland is back from its mid-season hiatus and it brings with it a real six-pointer for Harps, who defeated Sligo Rovers 3-0 in Ballybofey in their last outing.
“I think we need to improve,” Horgan, who has confirmed Paul Hegarty as his new assistant manager, said.
[adrotate group=”43″]“We did improve against Sligo and in the second half against Shamrock Rovers. Teams below us will improve and will pick up more points.
“Against Dundalk (when Harps lost 7-0) we were the worst team in the country; against Sligo people had us right up there. We’re neither. We work very, very hard, but we will be in a struggle to stay in this division.
“It’s that type of League where things will go for you and against you. We ran our luck a little against Sligo and we scored first. We conceded first in previous games and that didn’t help.”
[adrotate group=”50″]Dave Scully is suspended this week while Damien McNulty and Sean Houston are injury doubts with Horgan also having concerns about the fitness of Packie Mailey.
Although the game gives Harps a big opportunity to put more daylight between themselves and Longford, Horgan warned: “We haven’t won away from home all season. If we were to get any sort of a result it would be a great result.”
