MALIN SECURED A home victory with a solid defensive display and another great display from one of the form fowards in the county Brendan McLaughlin.

Brendan McLaughlin scored an early goal for Malin after Seamus Houghton had done well to win Seamus Doherty’s ball in, McLaughlin won the break down from Houghton, dummy soloed before hitting between the keeper’s legs.
Seamus Doherty followed this right from the kickout with a point from 20 yards. Cloughaneely opened their account when Shaun McGuire did well to win a long ball in before turning and firing over.
Malin got their second goal when a good run from Christopher McLaughlin drew in a defender and he fed Danny McCarron who made no mistake drilling low into the bottom left hand corner.
Martin McGuire replied hitting a score from distance and he then turned provider winning a ball inside before feeding Darren Ferry who hit over from out on the right.
Declan Walsh pointed for Malin after a patient move saw the ball worked across the pitch before the All-Ireland winner burst a tackle and powered over. Martin McGuire tapped over a free won by a strong run from corner back McGeady.
Malin responded with a good move up the right saw Paul McLaughlin setting up cousin Brendan who scored under pressure. McLaughlin again tortured the visiting defence firing over after Seamus Houghton salvaged a long ball in. Declan Walsh scored his second of the day from the right after good work from Darren McLarkey.
Kieron McColgan plucked a ball out from the sky with great fielding before setting Seamus Doherty away to run through and point. Two frees from the left from Darren McGeever kept the Falcaragh men in touch with the half time score Malin 2-6 Cloughaneely 0-6.
It was game-on right away at the start of the second half when Darren Ferry ran through the middle and hitting low under keeper McLaughlin.
Christopher McLaughlin opened his account to reply, with a solo run up the right before cutting back and powering over with his left. Scores were hard to come by for a long period in the second half but Malin added points from Brendan McLaughlin’s free from the ground after brother Stephen’s mazy run had been upended and then Matthew Byrne scored a beauty from out left to go six up.

There was still time for more points from the Fildaras with Brendan McLaughlin finishing off a lovely team score and a Paul McLaughlin trademark run down the right and a powerful finish to match. Cloughaneely got a late consolation from Ferry.
