FINN HARPS MANAGER OLLIE HORGAN has made obtaining a new assistant manager his top priority for the mid-season break.
Harps players will get next week off with their next game on June 25 at Longford Town, but Horgan will have little in the way of downtime
On Tuesday, his assistant Gavin Dykes was confirmed as the new manager of Irish League club Ballinamallard United.
Dykes’ last involvement at Harps was at last Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Shamrock Rovers.
[adrotate group=”43″]Dykes had returned to Harps for this season having left his post as the Head of Youth Development at Sligo Rovers. James Gallagher vacated the role of Ollie Horgan’s number two following the promotion-winning season.
Now, Horgan has turned his mind to filling the void once more.
“We want to get the right candidate for it, someone who’ll add something to it,” Horgan said.
“We’ll see how we get on. We’re hoping to fill that vacancy. I’m certainly thinking about it and I’ll spend the next week trying to get that in order.”
[adrotate group=”50″]Horgan paid tribute to the departed Dykes, adding: “To be fair to Gavin, he gave everything to us, from huge ability to knowledge and, above all else, time. He’s a loss and we’ll need to replace that.”
Horgan has extensive contacts in the game and could pull a rabbit from a hat.
A promotion from within, for the likes of under-19 manager Joe Boyle or under-17 manager Declan Boyle, is said to be unlikely and, while some have mooted that Kevin McHugh could be handed the role that, too, doesn’t appear a runner at this stage.
