FINN HARPS SUPPORTERS bounced down Navenny Street last night after a 3-0 win over Sligo Rovers, but their manager, Ollie Horgan, was rather more grounded in the immediate aftermath.
The victory sends Harps into the League’s mid-season break nine points above the quicksands of the relegation zone.
“It doesn’t matter where you are now, it’s where you are at the start of November is all that counts,” Horgan cautioned.
[adrotate group=”43″]“There is no one in there getting too excited in there having won a game and no one got too down when we took a hammering against Dundalk.
“We’re not going to dwell on it. We have a massive game against Longford after the break and we move on very quickly.”
While it was hard to temper the emotions of Harps supporters after a stirring derby night win, Horgan had his game face on when he faced the media afterwards.
[adrotate group=”38″]Houston’s double came either side of Curran’s sixth strike of the season.
Letterkenny man Houston is now injury free and Harps are reaping the benefits.
Horgan said: “Seán is a good lad who has played at this level for a number of years. He is at this standard.
“The first goal was vital. We got it and we had something to hang onto. Things fell our way tonight. We’ve had a difficult few weeks and it’s good to get a result. We move on and try to accumulate enough points to stay up.
[adrotate group=”50″]“We weathered a little storm. We got the second against the run of play. The first was crucial. Had Sligo got it, it could have been completely different. We’d have had to go at them. We might have struggled, but it fell our way tonight.”
There were raised eyebrows when the team sheets dropped and brought confirmation that Richard Brush would start in goal, taking the place of Ciaran Gallagher, who’d been Man of the Match in the draw with Shamrock Rovers just five days previously.
Brush kept a clean sheet and Horgan insisted that it was part of the plan to rotate his goalkeepers for last night’s game.
The Harps manager said: “The two of them are talented goalkeepers with little between them. Richard had a great night tonight, Ciaran had a great day on Sunday. The two previous weeks they had bad weeks. It’s an area of the field that we’re very strong in.”
[adrotate group=”72″]Harps will have a week off before returning to training on Monday-week, June 13, while they play Cliftonville in a friendly at Solitude on Friday, June 17.
