THE ENTRY LIST for the 2016 Joule Donegal International Rally shows the attraction and the draw of Donegal for competitors.
Parts of the entry list have the feel of an index for an atlas.
In the Historic Rally alone, there are entries from Florida and California in the form of Frank Cunningham’s Escort RS from Florida and California’s John Coyne competing in a Sunbeam.
In the International Rally, Tony Quinn comes all the way from Queensland, Australia.
Quinn is Scottish born, but has strong family roots in Donegal. Quinn, who has Anthony Nestor on the notes in Donegal, had hired a McKinstry-prepped WRC Subaru for the weekend.
[adrotate group=”37″]Quinn has been quite successful in New Zealand and Australia and has just announced a programme to support aspiring competitors, to enable them to further their careers.
The Historic Rally also contains Jimmy McRae, who comes from Scotland to take part in a works Chevette. McRae won the 1980 Donegal International Rally and is a popular figure in these parts.
And in the International Rally, Paul Rowley comes from New York to take to the Donegal tar in an S2000 Skoda Fabia.
