SHAY GIVEN EARNED his 134th Republic of Ireland cap in a 2-1 friendly international loss against Belarus this evening.
Given, who debuted on March 29, 1996 in a 2-0 friendly loss against Russia is now the longest-serving Republic of Ireland international. It’s 20 years and 65 days since he first appeared for the Boys in Green.
Tonight in Ireland’s last friendly before Euro 2016, Mikhali Hardzichuk put Belarus 1-0 up on 22 minutes at Turner’s Cross. Maksim Valadzko made it two on 64 minutes with an effort that deflected past Given off Ciaran Clark.
Ireland did pull a goal back on 72 minutes when Stephen Ward tucked home a pass from Shane Long.
Clark was named as man of the match in a below-par Irish performance.
Manager Martin O’Neill has until 11pm tonight to confirm his 23-man squad for Euro 2016.
