GERRY CROSSAN IS CONFIDENT that his Donegal Schoolboys Under-13s can reach new heights in tomorrow’s SFAI Inter-League final.
They meet the DDSL in the Under-13 final at Cahir Park in Tipperary tomorrow (1pm), looking to retain the title won by Donegal twelve months ago.
Last year, Kevin McHugh’s Donegal defeated Waterford in the decider and now Crossan’s class of 2016 are aiming to get their hands on the prize.
“Everyone is up for it and hopefully things will go well for us and we’ll play to our potential,” Crossan told Donegal Sport Hub this morning as his squad gathered at Tobin’s Service Station.
[adrotate group=”62″]After coming through their group with Sligo/Leitrim, Cavan/Monaghan and Inishowen, they defeated Athlone in a dramatic semi-final.
Crossan said: “They struggled in the first game with a bit of nerves, but we’ve played really well after that. We didn’t convert the possession in the semi-final, but they’re hard to beat and they’re strong as a unit.
“If they play to the potential they’ll be formiddable for any opposition.”
Late in extra-time in the semi-final at the Finn Valley Centre, replacement goalkeeper Paddy McGarvey saved a penalty and then, in a moment of yet more drama, Blake McGarvey headed in a magical winner.
[adrotate group=”43″]Crossan, whose team hasn’t conceded a goal in any of their competitive games this season yet, said: “There is an unwillingness to accept defeat. I feel very confident that they can grind out results. They are very strong mentally and physically. We’re very happy with how they’ve played.”
